Lana Del Ray

I have heard a lot about Lana Del Ray over the past few months, good and bad. First off I must admit that I get much of my music news, and news in general, from NPR.  I used to seek out music and spends hours on Itunes trying to locate my next favorite song.  We lack and good radio stations in Birmingham, our last great one being lost to corporate greed and turned in to yet another conservative talk radio station.  Therefore, good music is hard to come by.
When I heard their story of LDR on Morning Edition it did peak my interest.  Recently, in spite of all the negative comments she has received, I decided to download it.  I must admit, it is my new favorite...and one of the best albums I have listened to in a while.

On The Record with Ann Powers, I think it is said best....
"Hype is helium: the monatomic force that causes a cultural product to exceed its normal boundaries, float upward, and crowd out everything around it. Hype works when an artist or art work hits an already partially exposed common nerve, setting off a mass discussion about issues that go far beyond whatever product started the chatter.....She's what most of us desire and despise, all in one. That's agitating, so much so that the hype enveloping her and the backlash that usually follows have formed a pile-up, making her both a star and a pariah. I'm not interested in defending her, or pillorying her further...."

I am not interested in "defending her, or pillorying her further" either, I just like her album, the lyrics and her voice.  

Tory Burch Cuffs

My mom's birthday was earlier this month.  As she is the HARDEST person in the world to buy for...but then I found these Tory Burch cuffs.  Tory Burch has excellent jewelry, and good some excellent prices.  My mom just got her bracelet in the mail and she LOVED it!

Valentine's Day Earrings

Though I LOVE all these earrings, I HEART the pair from the Victoria & Albert Museum.  In fact, they have quite a few little gems for Valentine's Day.  Visit their gift shop here

OHHHHHH if only I was very very rich I would own a Damien Hirst painting.  No, not one of the animals in  glass tank of formaldehyde

and although they are very cool, not one of the skulls. 

But one of his beautiful screen prints, or a heart with butterflies would be nice!

That is why, if I were VERY rich I would catch a flight to New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong, Athens, Beverly Hills, Rome, and Geneva and visit all eleven Gagosian Gallery locations to take part in The Complete Spot Challenge .  If I got to view the exhibition of The Complete Spot Paintings 1986–2011, I would receive a signed spot print by Damien Hirst, dedicated personally to me!  And I would get to see the fabulous Dot paintings, have a blast in the process, AND HAVE A DAMIEN HIRST SIGNED PRINT.


....Oh to have enough money to be a collector of my favorites!
